Adirondack Cooperative Economy

We are a new community of concerned citizens and businesses that wants not only to boost our economy but bring about a shift in our attitude towards money.

hibernating bearGoodness, it has been a long time! However the Adirondack Bucks are alive and well though somewhat dormant at the moment. Several things happened simultaneously.

I lost my domain name “AdirondackBucks.com” because of difficulties with my Email Address so was only using my Facebook site. At the moment this site goes by adirondackbucks.wordpress.com.

Secondly, after the death of my mother, I became a member of the Adirondack Economy which means hard work and spotty earnings. I opened a Bed and Breakfast which was great in the summer but not so great in the winter.

So this meant I was not running around beating the gong. After our first run with the Bucks something happened which seems so happen to most local currencies until they are accepted widely enough by people that “get it”: The money began to “pool”. That means stores and restaurants began collecting the money and were not spending it. Also not enough people actually buy from each other in our local community. So we decided to try two things: to ask all the participating businesses to accept 100% Bucks and to make it redeemable into $. This meant we had to raise the money to make this possible. The income from the original Bucks were used for printing and advertising. We asked for donations and received $50 from a generous donor. So we decided on fund raising. Anyone can bring bottles and cans to the redemption centers in Warrensburg and Chestertown and donate them to the “Adirondack Bucks”. We have raised $170 so far. All donations are very welcome. So once we have a large enough fund we will be back in action.
