Renewing the ADK Bucks 2016

Since its inception in 2012 about 3,000 Adirondack Bucks have been continuously in circulation. We have been waiting for three factors to come together in order to increase this amount.

1. find a business that everyone uses (a gas station)
2. raise the funds to cover all Bucks in circulation with $ US
3. find a creative and beneficial way to put the Bucks into circulation

As of today, September 14, 2016, all three have come together. Earlier this year Toby of the Gulf Station on Main Street in Warrensburg (across from the Hudson Headwaters Health Center) took the step to accept the Bucks for gasoline 100%. We hope to find more privately owned gas stations in other areas.

With several projects, including collecting returnables and donations, we have raised the funds to cover the Bucks already in circulation.

And finally we have THE idea. A food coop needs funds to expand its assortment and a bakery/café wants to buy the building in which it is housed. We have offered to loan the amount needed in ADK Bucks to both businesses (at zero interest) which they will sell to their customers (to be used like gift certificates) This will allow the customers to support their favorite business and get the Bucks moving. As the Bucks are gradually used at these businesses they can eventually be returned and used for other projects.

This is INDEED exciting. Like fruit the Bucks needed a time of ripening.

In the near future I will be contacting all the businesses that have accepted ADK Bucks in the past, contact new ones and update the list of present businesses accepting them.
